Potty Training is one milestone that you are in all probability keenly awaiting. Although some toddlers modify during a few days, bear in mind that it could take your toddler many months to urge into the potty habit. And there'll be setbacks on the method.

Assess Your Child's Readiness For Potty Training

There's no right age to start out potty training, as each kid is totally different. Parents try to give potty training once their kid is between eighteen months and 3 years. Most kids are between 2 years and two-and-a-half years when they start receiving potty training.
Don’t force your kid for potty training. Look forward to the signs that your kid is prepared to start out training, and do not begin before then.
Talk to your child as to what you are going to do, and choose what you are going to call wee and poo.

Make Potty-Training Preparations

Go on a special trip along with your kid to shop for some new pants and a potty. A potty is maybe best to start out with, instead of a rest room. It’s simple to use, and can be moved easily in the house. However, you'll need to shop for a coaching seat to connect it to your rest room.
If your kid uses a rest room seat, you would require a footstep therefore your kid will stabilise himself together with his feet and push once he is having a poo. It will facilitate him to get off and on the loo without any help. A fun picture book or a DVD on how to use a potty will make him more interested on how to do things in the right way.
Try using training pants instead of underwear as training pants have absorbing pads inside it which would take care of small accidents.
Training pants are easy to pull up and down with disposable and absorbent benefits. But for some parents don’t find these convenient as they don’t feel any difference from a nappy. If your toddler is wearing real underwear then will give encouragement to use his potty. Let him choose few pants which have birds, cartoons printed on them.

Consistent Approach To Potty Training

Take things slowly to start with. Try to make your toddler sit on the potty once in a day after his breakfast or before his bath or whenever he wants to have a poo.
Make him sit on the potty soon after he had a wet nappy. This will ultimately get fixed in his mind as to where to go for a wee or poo and he will slowly accept it as a daily routine.
Never force him to sit of he doesn’t want to sit. If you realise that he is getting scared then and is not interested then put the nappy back on him. Put the potty aside and try after a few weeks. The main aim is to make him get use to potty
If he shows an interest, begin explaining that this can is what Mummy and pa do each day.
If he gets what you are trying to explain and manages to poo that’s nice. However do not push him to perform. Wait till he is prepared and shows interest in using the toilet on his own. Never force your child if he is not ready as he will lose interest and you will ultimately get frustrated
It’s easier to potty train in summer as there are few clothes to take off and drying of washing is faster as compared to winters. As potty is portable you can use it in a convenient place which can either be garden or a room.
Do inform all others in your family when you start potty training as they all have to use the same method which you are doing in your child case.

Demonstrate How It's Done

Children copy what we do. If he sees you using the toilet he would understand the purpose of it. If you have got a son, explain him to wee sitting right down to begin with.
You can talk to your child about how you can tell that’s it’s time for you to go to rest room. Explain him by doing it yourself. Start with showing him as to how to wipe with a toilet paper then pulling up your underwear and flushing toilet and then finally washing your hands
Your toddler will be requiring your help for some time mostly on wiping after poo. But after explaining him step by step he will slowly understand the whole process.
Your toddler will learn more quickly if he has older siblings who potty trained. The skills he is learning will be easily demonstrated by his siblings.
In order to help him in making connection between sitting and pooing, you should make him sit down on his potty and empty the nappy beneath him into the bowl if he poos in his nappy again.
When you have emptied his potty into the big toilet, ask him to flush if he feels interested but don’t force him or he might get scared. Motivate him to dress himself and wash his hands.

Persevere With The Potty, If He Is Prepared

Motivate him to use his potty whenever he feels the urge to go. This can be done by giving him plenty of drink and by encouraging him to use his potty after every few hours. Do make sure that he knows how to explain to you that he needs go, and that you will follow him wherever he goes.
There will always be a need to tell him to go to the loo first though there are chances when you will ask him to do a wee the reply will comes as a big NO. To give proper direction from your side you can say “Do a wee and then go outside and play. “
It’s alright if he goes around without a nappy or clothes for sometimes if the potty is kept nearby. Your job is to remind him occasionally that the potty is there and he can use it whenever he feels an urge to go.
Some toddlers have a habit of not sitting long enough on the potty and let anything come out. Encourage him to sit by talking to him or you might read a story.
Praise your toddler when he uses the potty successfully. Even if he having accidents which are continuous, he’ll gradually realise that using a potty is an achievement.

Cope Calmly With Potty-Training Accidents

Your child before becoming completely trained will have several accidents during the day time and the night. But don’t feel angry or frustrated or try punishing him. To completely understand the process your child will take time .If he has an accident clean it up without any frustration and explain him again that next time he should his potty. Make him sit on the potty afterwards to make him understand as to where the poo or the wee should have gone.
Your child will commit accidents during potty training. But if the accidents frequency is more as compared to progress then then start using nappies again and stop potty training as your child is not ready for potty training. That doesn’t mean you have failed but it only means that your child needs some more time to understand things.

 Night-time Potty Training

Though your child may remain clean and dry all day, but it may take months or even years to master being dry at night. It’s still not the time to through his nappies as your child’s body is not that developed as to make him awake during night just to go to the loo.
Most of the parents start to night train when their child is between three to four years and he has woken up with a dry nappy a few mornings. They can try it, but do make sure to use a pad or an absorbent sheet over the bed sheet to avoid any night accident.
Don’t let him drink too much before bedtime as this will cut down on wet nights. Do provide him six to seven cups of drinks during the day or whenever he asks for it. Explain him that if wakes up during night he should call to you to help him to get to the potty.

Try leaving a nightlight on in his room and leaving potty near his bed so that he can use it whenever he wants.
When your child is really ready to learn the new skill he will surely learn it and it would be then less painful for you.
